2012 Spring Volunteer Schedule

BECOME A VOLUNTEER

The Miracle League at Cypress Mounds relies on our amazing volunteers to help us deliver a positive, safe and enjoyable experience for our athletes.  Volunteering with Miracle League is a great way to gain experience working with children with disabilities and to give back to the community.

There are a number of volunteer opportunities available – we hope you’ll join us!

    • Buddies – Helps and protects a Player during the game.  Each player will have a buddy to help them if needed – for example push their wheelchair if the player can’t do it his/herself, guide them around the bases if visually impaired, or protect them from balls in play.  We would like to have a buddy assigned to the same player throughout the season so that relationships can form.  However, we understand that some people cannot make that kind of commitment so we also offer a “floater buddy” position.
    • Floater Buddies – Fill in if a buddy can’t make a game or offer assistance at games in other ways.
    • Coaches – Run the teams.  Coaches provide guidance, encouragement and compassion to the players and buddies and help ensure the games run smoothly each week.  Each team has their own coach. Coaches are required to arrive 30 minutes before their game and turn in a lineup to the announcer.  Games last for one hour, and there are no practices.
    • Assistant Coaches – Helps the Coach and manages buddies for their team
    • Team Parent – Helps the coach and communicates with the parents.
    • Umpires – Calls runners safe during the Miracle League games.  Umpires provide support and encouragement to athletes as they round the bases and assist with safety and equipment.
    • AnnouncersAnnounces the players and game action over the sound system.  Plays music and runs the scoreboard.

Volunteers must be at least 12 years of age.  No prior experience is needed.

The Miracle League will provide volunteers with additional information and training.
